Lolly Cake - Writing and Maths

Today for maths and writing we made Lolly Cake and it was delicious.
We were learning how to share shapes into equal fractions of 1/3s and 1/4s and to write instructions using lists, numbered steps and powerful verbs.

Here is the recipe we wrote together.

Lolly Cake
Ingredients:

  • 150g butter
  • 1 packet Eskimo lollies
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 packet malt biscuits
Equipment:
  • rolling pin
  • pot
  • big plastic bowl
  • chopping board
  • wooden spoon
  • knife
  • tray
  • gladwrap
  • baking paper
Steps:
  1. Wash your hands before you start.
  2. Cut the Eskimo lollies into 1/3s or 1/4s.
  3. Place the lollies into the plastic bowl.
  4. Crush the biscuits inside a plastic bag with a rolling pin and put them into the bowl too.
  5. Melt the butter and condensed milk slowly in the pot.
  6. Stir the mixture carefully.
  7. Pour the melted mixture into the big bowl with the biscuits and lollies.
  8. Stir it altogether.
  9. Tip the mixture onto a tray and make it into a log shape. (line with baking paper)
  10. Put it in the fridge to set.
  11. Wait for it to set (this was very, very hard to do)
  12. Cut the log into pieces.
  13. Eat and enjoy!

What do you think?
Why not try following our recipe and see if you can make your own Lolly Cake.
